The dolphins force the suspension of the first day of SailGP in New Zealand

MADRID, 23 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The tests of the first day of the SailGP Grand Prix in New Zealand have been suspended due to the presence of dolphins on the race course, the organization of the international catamaran competition has confirmed.

“The opening day races of the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix in Christchurch have been canceled due to prolonged dolphin activity on the race course during the duration of the competition window,” SailGP said.

SailGP’s F50s can reach speeds of up to 50 knots, which would compromise the animals present in the area; The activity will resume this Sunday.

“SailGP is committed to minimizing risks to the marine ecosystem and has comprehensive protocols developed in collaboration with local authorities and experts to avoid contact with wildlife,” he added.
