The details of the reappearance of Leonor in Oviedo: the Princess of Asturias Awards are synchronized with her 17th birthday

Leonor is the great protagonist in Oviedo. The heiress presents the Princess of Asturias Awards this Friday, October 28, in an act that has been long in coming because it also marks her official reappearance since her departure to Wales in August, where she is studying International Baccalaureate. This edition is almost synchronized with her birthday. The heiress will blow out 17 candles next Monday the 31st. Top photo by FPA (Dani Mora).

The day before the ceremony, this Thursday 27 at 5:20 p.m., Philip VI y Joy They preside with their daughters at the traditional awards concert at the Principe Felipe Auditorium, in the capital of the Principality. This moment will leave us with the first photograph of Leonor in an official act since the summer. The musical event, on its 30th anniversary, pays tribute to flamenco, intangible heritage of humanity, by the hand of the dancer Maria Pages and the singer carmen linaresawarded in the category of Arts.

The two great artists will join forces on stage 25 years after their last collaboration. The montage bears the title Carmen and Maria. Two paths and one look. It will be the great novelty, since by tradition the concert prior to the awards ceremony is performed by the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra (OSPA).

This 42nd edition of these awards comes with the return to full capacity of the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo. There are 1,307 seats and a new set design. The capital of the Principality hosts this week of awards a great program of activities and cultural meetings with the winners after two years of celebrations shielded by the health restrictions of the pandemic.

During her speech, the princess will be surrounded by her two grandmothers, Queen Sofía and Paloma Rocasolano, who follow in Leonor’s footsteps very closely.

The heiress will present the prizes to the artists Pagés and Linares; Juan Mayorga, in the Literature category; to the Refugee Olympic Foundation and the Refugee Olympic Team, Sports Award; to the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, in Concordia; professional sailor Ellen MacArthur, in International Cooperation; Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, in Social Sciences; to the fathers of the essential technique of artificial intelligence, Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun and Yoshua Bengio, in Scientific Research; and the Polish journalist Adam Michnik, in the Humanities section.
