Gareth Bale has a great career behind him. Beyond the controversies and the extra-sports issues, that is undeniable. But the story could be very different. Joleon Lescott, a former English international, has revealed on Sky Sports that everything could have been different in 2008, when Bale was just a kid trying to make a dent in Tottenham's first team.
Everton, the club in which Lescott was active, faced Tottenham, then coached by Harry Redknapp. Leighton baines, from Everton, was at that time one of the best left backs in England. After the crash, Lescott and Baines were leaving talking to the locker room, when Redknapp grabbed the side and took him away for a chat.
“Then I asked him what had happened. He told me that Tottenham wanted to exchange him for Bale,” reveals Lescott. “One of the reasons the operation was not done was Bale's little experience at the time, David Moyes didn't want to make the change.” There will always be the question of what would have happened if Bale had dressed as 'Toffee'.
