The Cup is already the focus of Athletic’s attention

Athletic barely had time to enjoy the league victory against Osasuna at El Sadar. The rojiblancos returned to their respective homes early in the morning and by midmorning they were already concentrated in Lezama to proceed to the penultimate training session before tomorrow’s cupbearer debut against Atlético Mancha Real, in Jaén. Rubén Uría returned to direct the rojiblancos’ work session while waiting for Marcelino to recover.

For some time now, it is once again common to see some lions training with masks, especially when the race continues. Munain and Dani García, for example, were seen like this in this open-door work session. Iñaki Williams, on the other hand, chose to run with his face uncovered.

The rojiblanca squad will be summoned again today in Lezama to proceed to the last training session before leaving for Jaén. We will have to wait and see what happens with the relevant tests to detect the coronavirus. In addition to Marcelino, both Raúl García and Zarraga, Villalibre, Lekue and Nuñez have remained confined in recent days.

Waiting

The positives that have been taking place over the last few days both inside and outside of Athletic force the rojiblanco coach to plan and cross his fingers to carry out his plans. The general rule since the arrival of Marcelino to the Bilbao bench was to face the first cup stakes with a massive rotation. The casualties dragged by the squad can limit this variation of players to the maximum.

Uría appealed in the last minutes of last Monday’s clash against Osasuna to Nico Serrano, Petxa and even Nolaskoain. Capa, who retired yesterday before training due to some discomfort, still has not been released this season. A case that is somewhat surprising, although Marcelino has always assumed responsibility when it comes to not giving the brave right-hander minutes.

Vivian, who seemed to be the first of the four long-term injured lions to join the group, worked yesterday with the rest of the teammates who had few or no minutes at El Sadar. The central Gasteiz even gave a small scare, although the blow did not happen to majors.

Yuri, meanwhile, worked inside the facility. Raúl Chasco, an 18-year-old left-hander from Navarra who plays in the ranks of Basconia, joined the training session with the first team in a session that was attended by President Elizegi.
