MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, presented this Friday the CSD-Be Active 2024 recognitions to the Autonomous Communities, municipalities, universities, educational centers, sports centers, work centers, media and creators of content that have shown a greater commitment to the promotion of sports practice during the European Sports Week.
“The figures reveal that we are increasingly aware of the benefits that physical activity produces,” said Uribes during the event held in the Samaranch Room. This initiative, promoted last September by the European Commission to combat a sedentary lifestyle, has had a high following in Spain.
“In 2024, the record for activities in our country has been broken, with a total of 1,230, which improves by 13% the average of all participating countries (1,086 activities). In addition, with 611,253 registered people, Spain has surpassed more than double the average global participation,” the CSD itself reported in a press release.
Uribes also stressed the need to “strengthen the link between sport and health”, for which he considered “fundamental” the “collective work” that these awards recognize for different Public Administrations, private entities and people who “have committed themselves to a special way with the values promoted by the European Sports Week”, as stressed by the president of the CSD.
The CSD-Be Active recognitions are aimed at Autonomous Communities, municipalities, educational centers, sports centers, universities, work centers and the media that have shown a greater commitment to the promotion of sports practice and healthy habits during the European Week of Sport.
Thus, in the category of Autonomous Communities, the work of the Community of Madrid has been recognized for being the region with the three municipalities (Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Madrid and Valdemanco) that are most participatory in the sum of their activities, with a total of 228. Precisely, Rivas-Vaciamadrid has been recognized as the municipality with more than 100,000 inhabitants with the highest number of proposed activities, with 120.
The other awarded municipalities were Ciudad Real, in the category of between 50,001 and 100,000 inhabitants; Martorell (Barcelona), in municipalities with between 20,001 and 50,000 inhabitants; Tarazona (Zaragoza), in municipalities with between 10,001 and 20,000 inhabitants; La Puebla de Alfindén (Zaragoza), in municipalities with between 5,001 and 10,000 inhabitants; and Balanegra (Almería), in the category of municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants. The extraordinary award for the municipality of more than 200,000 inhabitants has gone to Oviedo.
In the category of university centers, the University of Granada has been awarded for having the greatest number of proposals during this edition of the European Sports Week. The commitment of the following schools has also been recognized: CEIP Clara Sánchez and CEIP Miguel de Cervantes, both from Castilla-La Mancha; and the CEIP Concepción Arenal, from the Valencian Community.
Mondo Ibérica has been awarded the award as the work center with the most activities proposed and the most participation, while Area AML Boxing Club 13 has been the awarded sports center. For its part, TVG has won in the media category for its coverage of the central event of the European Sports Week, held in Vigo.
Finally, the CSD noted in its press release that “it has also recognized the promotional work that the content creators Clara and Elisabeth Mas have done for this initiative through social networks.”
