The CSD hosts the work day ‘Combat hate speech in sport’

The Higher Sports Council (CSD) has hosted this Wednesday the work day ‘Combat hate speech in sport’, an initiative carried out between said body and the Council of Europe in which representatives of public institutions, sports entities and associations have put together the measures to eliminate any type of discrimination in sport.

“Sport represents the best values ​​of respect, diversity and integration, and this involves the total eradication of any hate speech that may occur on and off the field of play”, underlined the president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, who he highlighted “very positively” the joint work to achieve “real and effective equality in sport”.

The general director of Sports of the CSD, Albert Soler, gave the institutional welcome to the day, divided into three different sessions and has had the presence and participation of Gabriela Matei, responsible for the area of ​​combating hate speech in sports of the Council of Europe.

The first meeting, focused on the institutional sphere, was attended by representatives of the CSD, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, as well as the State Attorney General’s Office, the National Police and the State Commission against violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport.

The second session has been carried out by sports entities. In addition to the CSD itself, representatives of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), LaLiga and the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP) have participated.

Finally, the working day concluded with the session dedicated to civil society, in which spokespersons from the Council of Victims of Hate Crimes and Discrimination, of the Spanish Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals, Bisexuals and Intersex (FELGTB) and the Spanish Paralympic Committee, in addition to the water polo player and Secretary of LGTBI Policies of the PSOE, Víctor Gutiérrez.
