ProLiga, the association that brings together First and Second RFEF clubs, reported this Monday that the Higher Sports Council (CSD) has considered its allegations and that it has stopped the attempt by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to hold exclusive representation of non-professional clubs.
ProLiga complained to the CSD about the change that the RFEF intended to make in the General Regulations and by which it granted itself the “exclusive” representation of non-professional clubs against third parties, something that it believed could be considered unconstitutional .
For the association chaired by David Jiménez, the Council’s action “represents a resounding success in defending the individual and collective interests of the clubs.” “ProLiga considered that the changes proposed by the RFEF bordered on the unconstitutional, and there was also a comparative offense, by limiting freedom of association only to clubs, while other football players such as players or coaches would not encounter that limitation, in defense of the rights and interests of the clubs,” he added.
The body recalled that “neither the Sports Law” indicates as functions of the RFEF this representation of football clubs and the defense of their interests collectively or individually. “In this way, the RFEF would be exceeding its functions and could be acting as a ‘covert’ business organization,” he stressed.
“It is essential that the rights that belong to the clubs are not taken away from them. The fact that the CSD has taken into account our allegations reinforces the need for an association like ProLiga to continue to exist, with the firm objective of protecting the interests and non-professional football rights”, celebrated David Jiménez.
