The CSD believes that Fuenlabrada made “a serious mistake” when traveling

After the Higher Sports Council did not like to find out so late about the positives of Monday in A Coruña and, much less, that yesterday it requested an exhaustive dossier with the facts and has not yet received it, the CSD itself has issued a note in which it shows that “The positive cases in the CF Fuenlabrada are a cause for concern for the Higher Sports Council and, above all, we wish those affected a speedy improvement, as well as the best possible evolution for their relatives and close contacts.”

In this sense, the CSD stresses that yesterday it requested La Liga “a report on what happened between Saturday and Monday afternoon, when the Council became aware of the facts. After 12 noon today (Wednesday) we received that report. Both the club and La Liga knew the first positive on Saturday, July 18 at 10:30 pm At that time, 'fluid communication with the health authority' should have been established, as stated in the 'Early response plan in a scenario of pandemic control by COVID-19 “, of the Ministry of Health (July 13).

In the note of the body chaired by Irene Lozano it is emphasized that “in addition, and this is more serious, the club and La Liga knew on Sunday at 22:30 that there were three more positives. It is considered that there is an outbreak when there are three infections, and at that time there were already four. The aforementioned plan states that in the event of an outbreak, the health authorities must be notified immediately, but the Community of Madrid Health Department was not informed, according to the LaLiga report. On the other hand, the CSD protocol clearly states – as the La Liga report shows – that If a positive is detected, the COVID-19 test must be carried out, among other measures, on the entire training group, as well as on the technical or personal body with which they could have had contact, leaving these sections until obtaining results”.

From the point of view of the Higher Sports Council, “A serious mistake was made when undertaking the trip: those who took the test on Monday morning should have been isolated, until the result was known (which happened when they were already in A Coruña). In the event of an outbreak, the team should not have traveled on Monday, due to an elementary principle of prudence, even in the event that it is true that the remaining PCRs carried out on the same Sunday gave negative results. According to the facts gathered in the La Liga report, it appears that the CF Fuenlabrada failed to comply with the protocols. Therefore, the problem is not in these, but in their bad application. “

In that sense, for CSD “The club is responsible for correctly applying the protocols and the league is responsible for ensuring that this is done. The suspension of the match last Monday, between RC Deportivo and CFFuenlabrada – corresponding to the last day of LaLiga SmartBank-, was the right decision with the information that was available at that time. However, the facts known subsequently indicate that also on the same Sunday night, the outbreak should have been reported to the CSD and the RFEF. There was also no due diligence to inform the sports authorities and the CSD did not know what was happening until late Monday afternoon

The CSD, in its note, concludes: “The performance of CF Fuenlabrada has put at risk the health of its players, public health and the competition as a whole. We cannot allow a bad application of good protocols to tarnish the extraordinary effort made by all Spanish sports, always under the supervision of the health authorities. For all these reasons, the CSD requests both La Liga and the RFEF, through its Competition Committee, to study these extremes and apply the measures they deem appropriate to prevent a similar incident from happening again in the future. “
