The conversation with Guardiola that condemned Hart

Joe Hart was Manchester City goalkeeper until 2016but it is now when he has recognized that tried to convince Pep Guardiola that he deserved to stay in the team. He did it in a talk the same summer that the Spanish coach landed in the city. A difficult time for Hartwhich was not in his plans.

Guardiola wanted a goalkeeper who handled himself better with his feet and opted for Claudio Bravo before signing Ederson the next, in 2017. A decision that was also influenced by the bad campaign of Hartas he himself has explained in a podcast called “In the Stiffs”: “I saw it coming, the European Championship didn’t go well for me, I had a very poor European Championship that year. That’s why I went back to Manchester as soon as I could to ask Guardiola what was going on.”.

Two hours of conversation in which the City manager was very direct with Hart. “He told me: ‘What I see in you is not what I want from a goalkeeper’. And the talk ended when he told me that he did not see that I would work”recalls the English goalkeeper, who tried to make him change his mind in that talk, and for that reason, he replied: “I do not agree with you”.

But Guardiola did not change his strategy and Hart ended up leaving for Torino. “I told him that what he said was very good, but that I had never been asked for those kinds of things that he likes goalkeepers to do, so I thought the only fair thing was to be given a chance. I wanted to train with one of the best.”concludes the English goalkeeper.
