The Competition Judge closes the Villamarín two games

The Competition Committee sanctioned Betis with the total closure of Benito Villamarín for two games. The federative body thus punishes the Sevillian club after a Betis fan threw a PVC bar that hit the head of Sevilla footballer Joan Jordán during the Cup derby, forcing the rest of the game to be postponed until the next day.

The Competition judge considers “proven, in view of the facts contemplated in this file”, that the measures taken by Real Betis Balompié, SAD, for the prevention of public incidents “They have been shown to be insufficient.”

Competition adds that “other sanctions cannot be applied such as “the loss of positions or positions in the classification (section 5) since the format of the competition is developed through the elimination system”.

“In short, the sanction applicable to the disciplinary infraction committed by Real Betis Balompié, SAD, would be the total or partial closure of the sports venue for up to three games, or for two months. In this sense, this body considers the imposition of the sanction of total closure in its medium degree adequate and proportionate”, says the resolution.

Betis has 10 days to appeal the Committee’s decision, and it will. He must also indicate in the next 24 hours another venue where he will play his next two home games, which if the Appeal does not prosper, they would be Villarreal in the League and, if determined by the draw, the Cup quarterfinals. The normal thing is that they choose the Sevillian stadium of La Cartuja, which has a capacity similar to that of Benito Villamarín, of about 60,000 spectators.

The Verdiblanco club has already tried to mitigate the possible fine by sending images to the Federation so that “an investigation” could be undertaken, in words shared by its coach Manuel Pellegrini and its president Ángel Haro on Sunday. The images tried to show an excessive reaction of Joan Jordán and his coach Julen Lopetegui in the Villamarín band after the Catalan midfielder received the impact. This newspaper was able to learn that they do not clarify anything.

The Basque referee De Burgos Bengoetxea decided to suspend Betis-Sevilla last Saturday after Joan Jordán and the Nervionenses footballers decided to leave the field of play because their physical integrity was in danger. Jordán was transferred to a hospital and did not play, behind closed doors, the remaining minutes of the match. He was under observation at home.
