The Civil Guard begins this Friday the security device of the 77th edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a España 2022, which will have a Mobility and Road Safety Unit (UMSV) made up of a total of 130 civil guards with 59 motorcycles, a helicopter and other vehicles.
As reported by the Ministry of the Interior through a statement, during the return, which takes place from August 19 to September 11, departing from Utrecht (The Netherlands) and arriving in Madrid, 3,280.5 kilometers will be covered. –the official distance of La Vuelta–, although the UMSV will travel a total of approximately 12,000 kilometres, between stages and journeys.
Likewise, among the 130 agents of the UMSV there will be 83 from the Benemérita Traffic Association from almost all of Spain, who will provide dynamic protection to cyclists and mobility and road safety, in general, to the entire event.
On the other hand, 39 agents will come from the Reserve and Security Group, from the Madrid group, who will be in charge of citizen security and public order inside the stages, especially in the mountain passes and in crowded areas. people.
In addition, six civil guards from the Madrid Air Service will cover the entire device from the air, with the support of a helicopter. They are joined by two other components of the GAR surveillance aerial unit (drones), and two components of the Mobile Material Service that will use a bus to facilitate certain Unit transfers.
In terms of material resources, the Traffic Association contributes 59 motorcycles, three passenger cars, two minivans, three vans and a truck to the device. For its part, the Reserve and Security Group adds nine off-road vehicles and three vans, and the Air Service adds a helicopter, a minivan and a tanker truck. Finally, the Rolling Stock Service assists by means of a bus.
THE UMSV WAS CREATED FOR THE CYCLING TOUR
The Civil Guard’s Mobility and Security Unit was created in the 1990s to provide support and security in the Vuelta Ciclista a España. For this reason, the Civil Guard will incorporate a corporate promotional ‘stand’ in the ‘Parquevuelta’, which will be located at all the arrivals of each stage.
There, UMSV’s own personnel, with the support of the Commanders of each province, will present various material and provincial means to resolve doubts and make the Benemérita better known.
