MADRID, 8 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Manchester City beat Newcastle (5-0) this Sunday on matchday 36 of the Premier, to take advantage of Liverpool’s draw the previous day and achieve three cushion points in the lead, with three games to play both.
Pep Guardiola’s team did not fail the domestic pulse as it did in its attempt to fight for the long-awaited Champions League. After losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in the semi-final second leg, City did not waver at home to Newcastle, going 2-0 at half-time.
Sterling and Spanish centre-back Laporte put the lead on, and Rodri, Foden and again Sterling scored in the second half. City thus adds 86 points, three more than Liverpool due to their insufficient point against Tottenham. It wasn’t enough for the ‘Spurs’ either in their fight for the ‘Top 4’, which strengthens Arsenal with four more points thanks to its victory (2-1) this Sunday against Leeds that falls to the relegation zone.
In addition, the day left West Ham’s win against Norwich (0-4) to defend seventh European place and continue to aspire to sixth for an unreliable Manchester United. Meanwhile, Everton came out of the red zone with their win (1-2) against Leicester.
