The Champions in Spain, very pending of the regrowths

The Women's Champions League, to be held from August 21 to 30 in the Basque Country, is in the spotlight due to the increase in sprouts in Spain. As AS knew, UEFA is very aware of the pandemic situation, with the focus placed on San Sebastián and Bilbao, chosen to host the eight European final, in which there will be two Spanish teams (Barça and Atlético) in the fray. The organism of soccer in Europe will not shake the pulse to change course in the event that the COVID-19 threatens the security of the celebration of the matches. A fact supported by a contingency plan already established, as in the men's competition, to designate other venues in case the rebound of cases is more dangerous.

Although there are beginning to be voices that are about to change their venue, the truth is that UEFA will speed up the deadlines before a possible decision of this caliber. Thus, the possibility that the continental tournament is not held in the Basque Country is on a thread that is difficult to control: COVID-19. The presence of more or less contagions in Spain and, more specifically, in the two Basque cities, will be decisive for the dispute of this Champions League, in which Atlético and Barça will meet on August 21 (6:00 p.m.) for a position in the semifinals. The Catalan team, current European runner-up and champion of the Spanish League, walks as a favorite. All this if the coronavirus is given a truce.

It should be remembered that in addition to Atlético and Barça, Wolfsburg, Arsenal, PSG, Lyon, Glasgow City and Bayern have qualified for the quarterfinals. The crossings are: Barça-Atlético; Wolfsburg-Glasgow; PSG-Arsenal and Bayern-Lyon. Spain has, through the rojiblanco or the azulgrana team, the opportunity to storm for the first time in its history the record of the Women's Champions League. Spanish women's football achieved its greatest achievement in this competition in the Barça runner-up in the last edition. For now, the European domain is almighty Olympique de Lyon, with six Champions in the last ten years, four in a row.
