The Canal de Isabel II recovers the Water Race on March 20

The 39th edition will link the depots of Plaza de Castilla and the Philippine Islands over 10 kilometers

MADRID, 14 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canal de Isabel II recovers the ‘Memorial José Juan Ojeda’ Water Race and the 39th edition will be held over 10 kilometers on Sunday, March 20, starting at 9:00 a.m., between the Plaza de Castilla and Islas depots Philippines, according to the organizers in a statement.

“From Canal de Isabel II we wanted to recover a very symbolic sporting event for the people of Madrid who participate, to show the importance of water as an essential natural resource for our lives that we must take care of. From the public company we are responsible for carrying out the integral management of the integral water cycle and we do it efficiently and always seeking innovation,” said Paloma Martín, president of Canal and Minister of the Environment, Housing and Agriculture.

This race for athletes and running enthusiasts arose to highlight the importance of water as a scarce and essential good. For this reason, the route runs between two of the most emblematic water tanks in Madrid: the Plaza Castilla (Fourth Tank) and the Philippine Islands (Third Tank).

It is a ten-kilometre circuit, starting at Calle Mateo Inurria and finishing at Paseo Francisco de Sales. Registrations can now be made on the website www.lacarreradelagua.es until Saturday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m., or until the maximum quota of 4,300 seats is exhausted, from 16 years of age. The price is 16.50 euros.

The test will take place on Sunday, March 20, two days before the celebration of World Water Day, a date set by the United Nations to highlight the importance of this limited resource for health, development and well-being.

To facilitate the development of the event, the organization will have a cloakroom service, refreshment points and medical assistance for the runners. Likewise, depending on the evolution of the epidemiological situation, and following the indications of the health authorities, the organization may adopt special measures to guarantee the safety and health of the participants.

The Water Race is one of the most traditional popular events in the capital, along with the San Silvestre Vallecana or the Canillejas race, which is why the regional administration has wanted to relocate it in the sports scene. In total, more than 50,000 people have already run in all its editions. In addition, it has a very favorable profile for runners, which contributes to obtaining good marks.
