MADRID, 21 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canadian cyclist Magdeleine Vallieres (EF Education-Cannondale) was awarded this Sunday the Palma Trophy, a test of the Mallorca Women's Challenge, in which the Spaniard was on the podium after finishing third behind the North American and the South African Ashleigh Moolman (AG Insurance-Soudal).

The Palma Trophy, with start and finish in the Balearic capital, had 138 kilometers and more than 1,500 meters of unevenness, which were concentrated in the final stretch of the day with the climbs to Coll de Grau and Coll de Sa Creu . The Spanish team included the participation of Gloria Rodríguez, Ziortza Isasi, Nuria Tauler, Mireia Trias and Marina Garau, in addition to Mavi García.

The first kilometers were marked by escape attempts, with Garau and Rodríguez doing a great job of protecting Mavi García, until a breakaway made up of De Vallier and Lundmark broke away to achieve a three-minute lead. As the kilometers passed, the two runners were neutralized, and on the descent of the Coll de Grau the final cut occurred, with the Canadian Vallieres risking at the head of a group formed by Silvia Persico, Erica Magnaldi, Mavi García and Karlijn Swinkels .

With Movistar Team and AG Insurance-Soudal pulling the peloton, Vallieres once again took a risk on the descent to Sa Creu. The chasing group, made up of Mavi García and Ashleigh Moolman, tried to chase her in the last kilometers, but nothing prevented the North American from winning. The South African, for her part, achieved second place in the sprint against the Spanish.

This Monday, the women's Mallorca Challenge will close its first edition with the Binissalem-Andratx Trophy, which will propose a route of 114 kilometers and 1,400 meters of unevenness that will concentrate the hardness in the middle area of the route before the final 20 kilometers of pursuit to the finish line.
