The British ‘Battlecry’, champion of the Viajes InterRías Trophy in Sanxenxo

MADRID, 14 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The British boat ‘Battlecry’ has been proclaimed champion of the Viajes InterRías Trophy, the last test of the 6-meter Spanish Cup that has been held in the waters of Sanxenxo (Pontevedra), in the Open category, while the Spanish ‘Bribon 500’ , skippered by Pedro Campos, takes the titles of champion of the Classics category and that of winner of the Spanish Cup.

With the days of Saturday and Sunday blank due to the absence of wind, the results of Friday were confirmed, the day in which the maximum number of races scheduled per day (two) were disputed thanks to a north wind of about 11 knots of intensity that accompanied the 6-meter fleet during the tests.

With this, ‘Battlecry’ and ‘Bribon 500’ climb to the top of the podium and say goodbye to the 6-meter season in Spain as winners of the Viajes InterRías Trophy.

‘Caprice’, by the skipper Iñigo Echenique, started by winning the first round of the day, although a fifth place in the next one relegated him to second place overall in which ‘Bribon 500’ was in command again. The regularity of ‘Titia’, armed by Alicia Freire and skippered by Mauricio Sánchez-Bella, with two third parties, allowed him to secure the third box on the podium in the Classics category.

“There has been splendid weather, perhaps too much because the wind has been lacking, but luckily on Friday we were able to sail in very good conditions and everyone is happy,” said Pedro Campos, skipper of the ‘Bribon 500’ and president of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo (RCNS). “It has been a long year but one of enormous successes at an organizational and sporting level, in all fields, and today it has ended,” he added.

In the Open division, three different nationalities have taken the three podium positions. British and Portuguese, represented by ‘Battlecry’ and ‘Seljm’ respectively, traded first and second in the two races held on Friday, resulting in a three-point tie that has been broken in favor of Jeremy Thorp’s crew. Violeta Álvarez and her team, aboard the ‘Stella’, completed the podium.

The Viajes InterRías Trophy was in turn the eighth and last scoring regatta for the 6 Meter Spanish Cup, a circuit that began last March in Sanxenxo.

Campos wanted to highlight the presence of foreign vessels that after the September European Championship have decided not only to stay in Sanxenxo, but also to participate in the InterRías Travel Trophy. “They have stayed here thinking about next year, that we will have the World Cup of the class in Sanxenxo. In March 2022 more will come and the number will increase until the peak of next season, which will be the world championship in June. “, he pointed.

The next 6-meter class circuit in Spain, that of 2022, will begin in March and will be held monthly in the waters of Sanxenxo. The World Cup will be played in June, and the Spanish Cup will continue until November 2022, with the Cascais European in between.
