The Nagelsmann era at Bayern began this Monday, when the team (minus the internationals who have played in the European Championship) began preparing for the 2021-22 season by undergoing medical tests. This Tuesday, physical tests and training will start on Wednesday. The Munich first friendly will take place on July 17 against Colonia. The big news is that defender Dayot Upamecano, a brand new Bayern reinforcement from Leipzig and who will wear the '2', was also present.
There was controversy over when Upamecano could join Bayern training, but the Munich club reached a friendly agreement with Leipzig and the 22-year-old defender was able to join instead on July 15.
In total, Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern's new coach (replacing Hansi Flick, who takes over from Joachim Löw as Germany coach), has 19 players (including 3 goalkeepers) at his disposal for the start of training. The internationals who have participated in the Eurocup will be incorporated throughout the month of July.
As for his first official game as Bayern coach, Nagelsmann will make his debut, as happened with Hoffenheim, in Bremen. His debut as a coach for that team took place on the road against Werder Bremen. Now his first official meeting as Bayern coach will be against Bremer SV (5th), in the first round of the German Cup, between 6 and 9 August.
The Bundesliga debut will take place on August 13 against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bayern will defend their title after winning 9 Bundesligas in a row. And on August 17, Nagelsmann's men will play the German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund.
