The Baskonia wake up with Spahija

The people from Vitoria clearly beat the Red Star

MADRID, 16 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Bitci Baskonia put an end to a streak of four consecutive defeats in the Euroleague on Tuesday after beating Red Star (93-74) in a comfortable match for the Vitoria, who were resurrected on this tenth day after the arrival of new coach Neven Spahija, facing his second stage in the Basque team.

Baskonia experienced a game that he needed on Tuesday and soon found himself again with the sensations that he only had at the beginning of this course. The goodbye of Dusko Ivanovic – who was cheered by the Buesa Arena stands – seems to have been key for the players to wake up on time and get close to the ‘playoff’.

The victory, the first in almost a month, was forged from the start with a lot of concentration on defense and a high percentage of effectiveness. At halftime, Baskonia had already scored 55 points when his total course average is 68, a figure that invited optimism in the second round, especially for a 17-2 run that knocked the Serbs down.

To get 30-10 in the second quarter, Baskonia relied on Rokas Giedraitis (21 points) and on the interiors, which were especially successful. Baldwin and Enoch were vital with high percentages and ended up reducing any reaction from the visitors, who tried to turn their fortunes in the final two acts.

Nikola Ivanovic, with 21 points, pulled Red Star to try to reduce distances and he succeeded, but the income of the Basques was so wide that they had no problems in closing the victory. Baskonia let go of the wrist and went almost to 100 units in a restorative day for the Basques after so many troubles.

The victory was forceful and spirited, it made the stands enjoy and showed that this Baskonia has the conditions to compete with more strength in Europe. Those of Spahija are placed in twelfth position just one victory away from accessing the ‘playoff’ positions.
