The Australian Jay Vine conquers the Tour Down Under and Pello Bilbao finishes third

The Australian cyclist Jay Vine (UAE Emirates) has conquered the 23rd edition of the Tour Down Under after defending in the last stage, in which the British Simon Yates (Jayco-AlUla) has imposed his advantage at the head of the general classification, while the Spanish Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) has climbed to the final podium as third classified.

The 27-year-old ocean runner reached the fifth and final day, of 112.5 kilometers between Unley and Mount Lofty -near Adelaide-, with a 15-second advantage over Yates and the Biscayan; Despite the Briton’s victory, he managed to retain the leader’s jersey, which he donned after the third stage.

With this, he surpassed the English in the final classification by 11 seconds and the Basque by 27, who remained on the podium of the event. In addition, he takes over from his compatriot Richie Porte, champion in 2020 before the event was suspended for two years due to the threat of COVID-19.
