The Australian Immigration Ministry continues to study its decision on the ‘Djokovic case’

SIDNEY (AUSTRALIA), 13 Ene. (dpa/EP) –

Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke is still considering the decision to take on the visa of Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic and whether he can stay in the country to play the Australian Open that starts next Monday, as confirmed this Thursday Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Hawke must decide whether to use discretionary powers to cancel the world’s number one visa after considering the evidence provided by the player’s lawyers on the matter, Morrison told reporters in the capital Canberra.

“These are personal ministerial powers that Minister Hawke can exercise and I do not propose to comment further at this time,” said Morrison in words collected by the Australian news agency ‘AAP’.

A Melbourne court on Monday overturned the initial cancellation of Djokovic’s visa last week for failing to comply with the country’s entry requirements in relation to its strict measures against the coronavirus, which include being vaccinated. The world number one and nine-time Australian Open champion is in Melbourne training for the defense of the title and awaiting a decision that was scheduled for Tuesday but has been delayed after his lawyers have produced more documents.
