The audio clip of Bob Knight that got out in the early 1990s is still hard to forget.

This was in the spring of 1984, and builders in Bloomington, Indiana, were given a strange job. They were told to put in a hydraulic platform within the fieldhouse at school.

There, Bob Knights would watch the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball trials and judge the 75 or so men who had come to try out for a spot in the team he would guide.

After practice, Knight would go down and talk over his notes in the other teachers who were helping him.

The program named “Michael Krzyzewski,” a member of Knight’s growing coaching tree, as one of the figures. Others were Dean Smith, Pete Newell, Gene Keady, as well as others.

Knight was on that tower only for practical reasons. From above, he could see Knight hero Michael Jordan, a junior that North Carolina, doing something that made no sense with gravity.

He could turn around and see Auburn forward Charles Barkley, who wasn’t a fan of Knight’s, grab a rebound and drag his 280-pound behind from coast to coast.

Shots could be blocked by Patrick Ewing on an additional court. The low post could be blocked by Karl Malone on a fourth.

But it was also a sign of something. Knight was the most important person in college basketball at the time.

He was only 43 years old, but he had already led the Indiana Hoosiers for two NCAA wins. The 1976 team was the last college squad to go the whole season without losing a game.

He was on track to win 500 games faster than any other coach in history. In the fall, Knight’s team won the gold medal in the Los Angeles Games.

Knight, who died on Wednesday at the age of 83, may have been at his best in the summer for 1984.

But he will be remembered as one of the greats in college basketball, a model teacher whose name is linked to strictness and dictatorship. And even though he cared about what other people thought, that never upset him at all.

Nov. 2— When James Nichols goes to a diner, he loves seeing how the cook reacts right away to what the customers say, like how spicy the hash browns are or how much cayenne pepper is in the clam soup.

Nichols, general manager for the Broadway Diner, declared on a recent Friday, “You get that instantaneous reaction as the widow’s right there.”

He said this while keeping one eye on a big pot of the day’s soup and pointing to the counter a few feet away.

Since the early days for Interstate 90 cutting Spokane in half and making a highway for freight as well as hungry drivers, the Broadway Diner has been offering hot food and coffee 24 hours a day.

Don Alsaker and his business partner Charles Williams bought a truck stop in 1963 and opened the eatery that same year.

The first time Nichols put on an apron was when he was 13 and made chicken cacciatore for his dad.

“The food is simple, yet one may screw up simple things,” he said. He’s had a lot of jobs, like driving a truck, but he loved being in the kitchen the most.

That’s clear when Nichols talks about the hash stack, which is one of every diner’s signature meals. The pot roast is on top of hash browns, potatoes, onions, green pepper, and two eggs.

There is also gravy and cheese on top of everything. He said that the huge meal is memorable because of how the tastes work together.

There are a lot of great movie quotes from the 2000s to the present day that we at Thrillist Video have tried to make official.

Our method was not at all scientific. There were times that stuck in our minds, and we thought about them and fought through them.

Some of the things on this list are on there because they have become memes, but not all of them.

Others were added because they surprised us in some way, like the perfect joke, the shocking reveal, or the beautifully written axioms. We really like some of them because they’re so silly.

All of these 100 choices have moved us emotionally, made us laugh, or made us nod our heads in agreement. They often come to mind without us even meaning to.
