The Al Thani roundabout is already history

The City Council of Malaga has approved this Tuesday to name the roundabout that it dedicated years ago to Abdullah Al Thani “Glorieta Of the Malaguista fans”. This has been corroborated today by the City Council's Streets Commission and later made official by the Councilor for Culture and Sports, Noelia Losada, through her official Twitter account: “And it is a fact. The Al Thani roundabout is now called 'From the Malaguista fans'. A well-deserved change of name to reward those who really feel the colors of Málaga CF”.

This matter had been on the table for quite some time. In fact, it was only pending endorsement in a Streets commission that had to be postponed at the end of March due to the pandemic. The terrible management of the Al Thani and their almost total abandonment of their functions at the head of the club for a long time led the City Council to revoke that populist decision to name “Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani” to the roundabout located at the intersection of Simón Bolívar and Luis Buñuel avenues, very close to La Rosaleda.

It should be remembered that the Al Thani roundabout already suffered some time ago from the attack of some fans who wanted to show their indignation and discomfort with the management of the sheikh and his family and tore off the plaque on which his name appeared.
