The AIU now accuses Katir of “manipulation” during an anti-doping control

MADRID, 12 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) indicated this Wednesday that it has accused the Spanish athlete Mohamed Katir, whom it already sanctioned last February with a two-year suspension, of “manipulation”, so if he is finally guilty he could see expanded his punishment.

“The AIU has accused Mohamed Katir of manipulation. Currently, Katir is suspended for failures in location,” the organization that on February 16 sanctioned the Murcian long-distance runner for two years indicated in its official ‘X’ account.

At that time, the Athletics Integrity Unit punished him for “an infraction resulting from three location failures in the last twelve months” when undergoing anti-doping controls. Katir, 5,000 m world runner-up in 2023 and European champion in 2022, decided not to appeal and attributed it all to an oversight.

Now, however, the Spanish athlete, who will miss the Paris Olympic Games and will not compete again until 2026, could see this suspension extended for an infraction that, according to the World Athletics anti-doping regulations, would refer to a “conduct that subverts the doping control process.”

“Tampering shall include, but is not limited to, intentionally interfering or attempting to interfere with a doping control official, providing fraudulent information to an anti-doping organization, or intimidating or attempting to intimidate a potential witness,” the regulations state.
