The AFE claims a Second of 26 teams

The Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) has positioned itself this Thursday on how the Second
Division this next season after the conflict generated by the suspension, on the last day of the championship, of Deportivo-Fuenlabrada due to the contagion of COVID-19 from several players in the Madrid team.

The union defends, through a release officer, the expansion of the competition to 26 teams. In this way, he assures, “no footballer would be harmed by the decision to have a league of 22 or 24 and the safeguarding of the rights contractually acquired by our affiliates and the clubs would be guaranteed.”

AFE claims to have transferred its proposal to all parties involved in the search for “the most coherent and fair ”.

In its statement, the union appeals to the Unit and cooperation of all parties “in order to solve this exceptional situation and thus prevent any fellow footballer from being harmed.”

The AFE understands that its proposal does not no problem at the competition or calendar level, taking as an example what happened in the lower categories, “in which not only have there been no decreases, but the number of participants for the 2020/2021 season has increased, from 80 teams to 102”.
