The 40th Copa del Rey de sailing defines its grid for the Final Series

The Aifos 500 skippered by King Felipe VI reaches the final with 7 points

The 40th edition of the Copa del Rey Mapfre de sailing completed this Wednesday the first half of the competition program and the teams stamped their passports for the Final Series, which is being played in the waters of Palma de Mallorca, where the classification of King Felipe stood out VI, as the pattern of the Aifos 500, with seven points.

In the BMW ORC 1 class, the HM Hospitales was the best in the Previous Series. The DK46 skippered by Carles Rodríguez, winner in 2021 as Hydra, led the provisional during the first half of the week and this Wednesday it was enough for him to score a second and a third to secure pole position in the Final Series, which will start with a point.

For its part, Javier Banderas’ Teatro Soho Caixabank once again signed an immaculate card in BMW ORC 2 and is now officially the best of the entire fleet in the Preview Series. The champion of the Copa del Rey in 2021 closed the first phase with only 6.5 points in six sets.


In BMW ORC 3, Enzo de Blasio’s Scugnizza, unbeatable in the two previous days, failed in the second of the day to close a good Previous Series with five wins out of six possible, a fifth and nine points ahead of his immediate pursuer . The best of the day was Federico Linares’ Brujo (2+2), who started the Final Series second, followed by Kai Mares’ Immac Fram.

For his part, the German Meerblick Fun leads in BMW ORC 4, his compatriot Earlybird does so in ClubSwan 50; the Italians from the Koyré-Spirit of Nerina rule in ClubSwan 42, in the same way as the also transalpine Farstar, which is the first in ClubSwan 36. In addition, the Spanish Balearia and Les Roches-Tripsst lead in Mallorca Sotheby’s Women’s Cup and Herbalife J70, respectively.
