The 22nd edition of the Zegama-Aizkorri mountain marathon will be held on May 14, 2023, over 42.195 kilometers and 5,572 meters of accumulated unevenness through the Aratz massif and the Sierra del Aizkorri, after a 2022 test in which broke a record of 12,500 applications to fill the 225 available places, organizers report.
The route includes four of the highest peaks in the Basque Country: Aratz, Aizkorri, Aitxuri and Andraitz. Pre-registration to qualify for next year’s marathon numbers will open on January 16, at 12:00 noon, through the Rockthesport.com registration platform.
For ten days everyone who wants to participate can pre-register to opt for a marathon number, while the period for the Vertical Kilometer and the Junior will open on January 30. The draw for the numbers will take place on February 24.
After two years of absence, the most emblematic mountain marathon in the world returned in 2022 with an edition in which Kilian Jornet and Nienke Brinkmanse achieved victory by smashing the 2017 records, with times of 3:36:40 and 4:16:43, respectively. .
There was also a record audience, since in the first full broadcast of the marathon it became the trail race in Spanish with the most views in the history of YouTube, 123,000 on Zegama and 122,500 on the Golden Trail World Series channel. .
