Marc André Ter Stegen will go under the knife again to solve his discomfort in the patellar tendon in his right leg. It will be the second time that he has surgery, after the first intervention he underwent last summer. On that occasion, the doctor responsible for the operation was Ramón Cugat. However, now Ter Stegen has decided to change his surgeon, and will go to Sweden to undergo this new intervention, which the club describes as a “therapeutic procedure”.
The intervention, which is scheduled for this Thursday, will be directed by the specialist tendon surgeon, Hakan Alfredson, at the GHP Ortho Center Clinic in Malmoe. He is one of the best patellar tendon surgeons in the world, who counts players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic on his agenda as patients.
Now it is to see for the time of low after the operation. It should be remembered that on the previous occasion he underwent surgery, the goalkeeper spent more than two months off the pitch. However, everything indicates that this second intervention will be much less invasive than the previous one., so the final withdrawal time could be slightly shorter.
In any case, Ter Stegen definitively says goodbye to the season, after a certainly very irregular balance, especially in the final stretch of the course, where the team conceded many goals and showed signs of defensive fragility. It also seems very complicated that he can participate in the Eurocup with Germany, since the competition starts in less than a month. In fact, Dr. José González explains to AS that “the surgery has to be minimally invasive for him to have any chance of being in the Eurocup, and being a goalkeeper, if he were not a goalkeeper it would be impossible for him to arrive.”
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen expressed his sadness this Monday after announcing, on his social networks, that this summer he will miss the European Championship with Germany to undergo an intervention on his right knee.
“I'm sad to miss the European Championship with Germany,” said the German goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer's regular substitute in the national team and who “for the first time in many years” will be “one more fan” supporting his country “from home”.
All in all, Ter Stegen was hopeful about playing again after the summer break, once the treatment on his knee was completed, and he is confident that, by that time, the public has already been able to return to the stadiums.
Regarding the sporting moment that Barça is going through, the German goalkeeper said he was “disappointed” by the fact that the Catalan team could no longer choose to win LaLiga after losing to Celta de Vigo at the Camp Nou (1-2) in the past day. “After a difficult start to the season, we showed great character by remaining undefeated for 19 games, but we were unable to maintain this form.”, he admitted in his social networks.
