The Lions and Lionesses of Spanish rugby seven opened the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series season in the ‘Top 10’ of the opening event in Dubai.
The women’s team returned to compete but did not accompany the sensations that they will seek again next week at the same venue. After falling on Friday to France (31-0), Australia (34-0) and Brazil (26-12), the Lionesses closed the group stage this Saturday against the United States, where errors in the last minutes deprived them of the victory (17-12).
Those of Pedro de Matías fought for the ninth place against Ireland with a victory by 7 of the Clover by 14-31. In the men’s category, Spain returned to action after two tournaments in Canada with a defeat against Argentina (28-7), but they came back against the United States, which they managed to overcome (7-12).
Kenya topped the Lions (26-12) at the close of the group stage. Despite the victory against the Eagles, the Spanish could not get into the golden quarterfinals and went on to fight for ninth place. Great victory against Canada (45-14) and defeat in the final of the challenge against France (26-28).
