Tennis Australia to announce Melbourne dates in two weeks

Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia, issued a statement on Sunday in which it announced what Over the next two weeks the dates of the Open will be announced from Australia, competition initially scheduled for the last two weeks of January.

The statement came in response to the statements made this Saturday by the Prime Minister of the State of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, in which he explained that players will not be able to reach the country before from January 1 and that they must undergo a strict quarantine of two weeks. Tiley remarked in his writing that the intention of his team is to be able end the tennis summer in Australia as soon as possible, in allusion both to the preparatory tournaments and to the 'major' itself, and guaranteed which will communicate the final decision in a period of two weeks. “We continue to have these important talks with the authorities local health authorities regarding the quarantine that would have to be carried out and to biosecurity requirements. We believe that we will have decisions soon”, he pointed.

A postponement of the Australian Open, which was scheduled to start for January 18, would greatly disrupt the scheduled course of the ATP calendar, since it could affect up to forty tournaments both ATP as WTA, as explained by The Guardian newspaper.
