Tenerife and Unicaja, for the Olympic Cup
Unpublished final between a Tenerife that is making its debut and a Unicaja that already has a trophy
BADALONA, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Lenovo Tenerife and Unicaja will play this Sunday at 7:00 p.m. the final of the Copa del Rey de Badalona 2023, an unprecedented and historic fight for the people of Tenerife, who sneak into a final for the first time while Unicaja will try to win their second Cup after the Machada to eliminate Barça and Madrid along the way.
The final will be Unicaja-Tenerife. A pulse that few expected and for which they least bet. But the compositors were far superior to Real Madrid and the aurinegros, in a minority in the stands, overcame Olímpic and a great Joel Parra (26 points) to win in a heart-stopping finish.
After four lost semifinals, Lenovo Tenerife finally goes to the final. And he does not want to stay as runner-up. Against Joventut, he used the seniority of Marcelinho Huertas and Giorgi Shermadini, as well as the strength of Tim Abromaitis (he blocked Parra in the final play), to win that dream final; the first in its history.
For its part, Unicaja will play in the final of the Copa del Rey after eliminating Real Madrid in the semifinals in a match that they almost completely dominated by imposing their pace and attacking game, against a Real Madrid team that could not match the momentum and soul of a Unicaja that will play its fourth cup final, looking for a second title after the one achieved in 2005 against Real Madrid.
Those from Malaga made history by beating Barça and Madrid in the same Cup, something never done before by anyone. The compositors will play a fifth final in search of extending that feat, after playing their last Copa del Rey final in 2020, being the host, and losing it against Real Madrid.
