Ten years of Isner-Mahut, the longest game in history

This Monday, June 22, it has been 10 years since the start of the longest game in history of tennis, which he faced in the first round of Wimbledon 2010 to the American John Isner and the French Nicolás Mahut.

Isner and Mahut played their match for three days (they started on June 22 and ended on June 24) in a match that It ended up leading the American tennis player 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3) and 70-68 after 11 hours and 5 minutes of the game, a mark difficult to match since Wimbledon imposed a new regulation in which the matches will be decided in a tie-break if the fifth set reaches 12-12, something that happened in the last final of the London Grand Slam between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

The match between Isner and Mahut also left us many other records that have not been seen again in a match. Almost 1,000 points were disputed (980, of which Mahut won 502 and Isner 478), between the two players they achieved 216 direct serves (113 by Isner for 103 by Mahut) and they played a total of 181 games and two tie-breaks.

However, In the meantime, the strength of both tennis players with their serve draws the attention of this match.because during the game there were only three service breaks, of which two were in favor of Isner and one in favor of Mahut, who managed to save 12 of 14 breaks he had against, although he could not save the decisive break.

Both tennis players celebrated this anniversary on social networks. John Isner recalled that episode and joked about Mahu's hairstylet “Nicolas Mahut, I can't believe it's been 10 years. Your hair hasn't moved an inch yet!” For his part, Mahut was proud of the battle he planted despite the defeat and invited the American to remember those old days. “Happy birthday friend John Isner. We should take some time together to remember that incredible story.” A game that will be very difficult to repeat in tennis and that is already part of the history of the sport.
