It is not going to be so clear, in my opinion, that they say that they estimate the issue of the Super League, it is not going to be like that, far from it as they are proposing it, but hey, we are already used to the fact that Florentino (Pérez) never loses,” said Javier Tebas at the AS Del Deporte Awards Gala.
The president considers that “football does not need a Super League”, but what it needs is for the national leagues to remain “in the status quo” and continue to “grow”, giving “continuity to the European formats” that exist now. “Your sporting classification in the European competition does not ensure your qualification for next season, which is what they are building with this new format, that is why I call it a lying Super League,” he said.
The head of LaLiga believes that the creation of this format is “totally impossible”, also due to a legal issue related to the UEFA statutes that it reformed two years ago. “If someone wants to organize a competition, they have to request it two years in advance and carry out an administrative procedure within UEFA itself,” he stressed.
“I speak with many clubs in Europe and for now the English are not going to be there, and I have not seen that they have moved any issue in the field of audiovisual and organizational rights, which is necessary to be able to launch that Super League that they are saying,” he noted.
On the other hand, for Javier Tebas, the most difficult thing he will face in the coming years is “everything that is happening at the level of the football ecosystem and competitions.” “We had a Club World Cup for breakfast, with the Intercontinental Cup, some of the Super League, reforms to the Champions League formats and without thinking about the national competitions, where there are many clubs and players who do not play in these tournaments,” he said.
