Támara Echegoyen joins ‘GUYOT environment-Team Europe’ in the next The Ocean Race

MADRID, 12 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish sailor Támara Echegoyen, Olympic champion at the London 2012 Games, will join the crew of the Franco-German team ‘GUYOT environment-Team Europe’ in the next edition of The Ocean Race.

With the signing of the Galician, co-skippers Benjamin Dutreux and Robert Stanjek complete their IMOCA class team, made up of sailors from France (Benjamin Dutreux and Sébastien Simon), Germany (Robert Stanjek and Phillip Kasüske) and the United Kingdom (Annie Lush). .

“Preparation time is running very fast. Therefore, we need someone who can join immediately. With her experience on different boats, Támara will be able to adapt directly to IMOCA with foils. She knows the Atlantic and the South Ocean: an incredible advantage when we have to navigate the long stages, either on board or providing support from the ground,” said Benjamin Dutreux.

For his part, Robert Stanjek explained that Echegoyen further reinforces his philosophy of “building a team with extensive experience in sailing.” “In addition, the human structure in a crew is extremely important. Annie Lush and Támara are well known from their experience as rivals in both the Olympic Games and The Ocean Race, in which they both connected,” he noted.

The 38-year-old sailor from Ourense is excited to participate in The Ocean Race again, after her first experience in 2017-18. “I am very grateful to the team for this opportunity. It is a pleasure to work and sail with them. I really like their open mindedness to learn from each other as a team. It is one of their strengths. I am looking forward to sailing together in the next The Ocean Race,” he said.

Alicante will be the port of departure for The Ocean Race; The first coastal regatta (in-port) will be held in Alicante waters on January 8, while the start of the first stage will take place on January 15.
