The Swiss Public Ministry has summoned the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on March 27 at half past nine in the criminal proceedings opened by the accusations he made during a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee last May 8 against the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas.

In that meeting, Rubiales accused, in the presence of the leaders of the different leagues of the continent, of corruption to Thebes. Specifically, according to the citation issued by the Canton of Vaud, to receive an “illegal commission” in exchange for the management of the international audiovisual rights of the League.

This citation is framed in an act of conciliation prior to the slander complaint filed against Rubiales by Mediapro, whom the RFEF president allegedly pointed out as the entity that would have paid Thebes in exchange for the aforementioned services. It is not the only time that the head of the RFEF points to the link between Thebes and the company owned by Jaume Roures. A month earlier, in April of this year, he declared that “Thebes is nervous because his friends who bribed FIFA no longer control television.”

Judicial battle

In reference to Mediapro said that “they are people who have bribed FIFA members” and added that “from the RFEF we have been told that we should not work with people who have recognized that they bribe.” “We work only with companies on equal terms, but if one of them acknowledges that he has bribed FIFA members, we will not work with them,” he added.

These statements intensified the war between the RFEF, the League and Mediapro, which has resulted in a judicial battle that is being fought both in Spain and in Switzerland for having launched Rubial accusations before the UEFA headquarters.
