Swiatek rolls Paolini to win his fourth Roland Garros

MADRID, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek has revalidated her title as Roland Garros champion, the second ‘Grand Slam’ of the season and the only one on clay, after beating the Italian Jasmine Paolini this Saturday in the final (6-2, 6-1 ), a result that allows him to lift his fourth Parisian ‘great’ trophy, third in a row.

In this way, Swiatek, 23, becomes the youngest female tennis player to win four Roland Garros titles (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024) in the individual category and adds her fifth ‘Grand Slam’, along with the US Open of 2022, and the 22nd trophy of her career on the WTA circuit.

In the final match at the Philippe Chatrier, the young Pole was surprised at the first opportunity when the transalpine player broke the second of the world number one’s serves to take the initiative (1-2).

Far from losing his cool, Swiatek won ten consecutive games between the first and second sets to get the duel back on track; Thus, he closed the first 6-2 and, with two breaks, made it 5-0 at the start in the second, completely frustrating a until then competent Paolini.

The Italian stopped the bleeding at 5-1, but Swiatek was not willing to let her opportunity slip away. On her first match point, she confirmed her victory on the Parisian clay after one hour and eight minutes of fighting.

In addition, the world number one is also the first tennis player to achieve three consecutive titles of the same ‘Grand Slam’ since the American Serena Williams achieved it at the US Open (2012, 2013 and 2014).
