The Pole beat the Greek Maria Sakkari in the final and won the title for the second time
MADRID, 18 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The world number one, the Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek, defeated the Greek Maria Sakkari (6-4, 6-0) to win the Indian Wells WTA tournament this Sunday for the second time after doing so in 2022.
The Pole shone in the event in the Californian desert (United States), in the 1,000 category for the WTA Circuit, with a solid and brilliant final where she once again proved to be the best.
In just over an hour, Swiatek, 22, reigned again in Indian Wells, as he did two years ago, to lift his eighth trophy in this category and the 19th of his record. This Sunday’s final had an even first set, with Sakkari responding to a break.
However, the number one pushed at the end and took the lead from the rest. In the second set, there was only Swiatek, with a victory to lift his second title of the season, after Doha, and once again intimidate his rivals as he has done since 2022.
