Swiatek: “I don't know what happened, but I'm very happy”

“I don't know what happened”, were the first words of Iga Swiatek after proclaiming herself the Roland Garros champion. The Polish woman, aged 19 and 53 in the world, lived a dream week in Paris. Out of all the pools before starting the appointment, he ended up getting the first Grand Slam for his country. “Two years ago I won the junior in doubles and now I am here. I am overcome, I do not know what to say,” he said with his voice completely broken by emotion.

When asked what had made the difference in the final, the first thing she did was wish the loser, Sofia Kenin, luck with the physical problems that affected her in the second set: “I hope you're not injured. Maybe I could have played better without that injury, but I think I've been very consistent. It was very stressful today, very tough, I don't know what made the difference.”

Finally, Swiatek referred in a very emotional way to the work of his father in his sports and personal growth: “My father has taught me how to be a professional. I have grown up feeling very confident on the court. He has given us everything. It's hard to explain. I love you dad.” Also to Rafa Nadal: “It's crazy to be here, where he raises his trophies.”

“I want to thank everyone who does their work in this tournament. I love him deeply and everyone who makes it up as well. I also want to thank my team. It's been a fantastic two weeks, “added Kenin.
