Star OC is one source. Slowik will stay with the Texans until 2024.

C.J. Stroud, a rookie quarterback for the Houston Texans, gets another year alongside his coach. They were the first to report on the deal. A source said that his current agreement includes a big pay raise.

Even though he interviewed with teams for head coaching jobs, Bobby Slowik will stay aboard the Texans as offensive coordinator for the 2024 season, said sources.

Slowik had job interviews with the Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers, the Washington Commanders, and the Seattle Seahawks.

The Panthers, Titans, and Falcons hired someone else, but the Commanders as well as Seahawks roles are still open.

And Slowik isn’t the only offensive brain trust member who’s staying put. ABC’s Adam Schefter got word from sources that quarterback instructor Jerrod Johnson will stay in Houston.

Johnson had interviews to be the offensive coordinator over the New Orleans Saints, the Cleveland Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New England Patriots, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Slowik and Jackson were very important to Stroud’s great rookie year. The No. 2 pick tossed for 4,108 yards, making him the fifth rookie who threw for more than 4,000 yards.

He was the first rookie to lead the league in touchdowns to interceptions (23 to 5), and he also threw for 273.9 yards per game on average.

In the past few weeks, Slowik has met with several NFL teams to interview for head coaching jobs.

The two open head coaching jobs are with the Seattle Seahawks team and the Washington Commanders. This month, Slowik did interviews with both teams.

After the Texans went 10–7 and won the AFC South, the 36-year-old coordinator chose to stay with the team. When hired offseason, Slowik was in charge of one of the best offenses in the league.

Quarterback C.J. Stroud had a great rookie season running Slowik’s offense. He is likely to be crowned the Offensive Rookie Person of the Year at this year’s NFL Honors.

Stroud was the No. 2 pick during the 2023 draft. He threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions within 15 games during the regular season.

Along with that, Rapoport said that quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson told teams that wanted to hire him as an offensive assistant that he plans to go back to Houston for the 2024 season. Johnson did OC interviews with the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There will be no changes for the Texans’ offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks instructor Jerrod Johnson will also be back.

Several news sources say Johnson has told teams that want to hire him as an offensive coach that he is going back to Houston.

Johnson reportedly got a pay raise and a longer contract to come back, just like offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. Johnson was in the running to be the offensive coordinator in New Orleans, Pittsburgh, New England, and Tampa.

He joined the Texans when DeMeco Ryans took over as head coach and just finished his first year in the team.

Johnson was said to have helped C.J. Stroud become the favorite for offensive rookie of the year.

Stroud threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions. He had the best interception rate in the league, with one per game and 273.9 yards.

Slowik talked to people from the Washington Commanders or the Seattle Seahawks. Neither team has named their new head coach yet.

He also talked to the Carolina Panthers, the Tennessee Titans, and the Atlanta Falcons, but each team went their way.

It’s possible that the young offensive specialist planned to stay and used these teams to get a better deal in Houston.

However, Breer’s post said that teams had a great time with Slowik during the hiring process. Many people think he will still be a top choice for a team hiring a head coach in 2025.
