Sporting, new leader after beating Alcorcón ‘in extremis’

MADRID, 16 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sporting de Gijón returned to the top of the SmartBank League this Saturday thanks to a goal by Djuka in injury time against Alcorcón (1-0), a victory that tastes of glory for the rojiblancos, new leaders in the category after Almería’s slip on their visit to Ipurua (1-0).

David Gallego’s team played with that advantage, he was aware of the Almeria defeat on Friday and motivation also played its role. However, the Asturians had to hold out until the 91st minute to beat ‘Alcor’ and rise to first place. Now they are leaders with 21 points, two over Almería and three over Eibar, waiting for Ponferradina to play their game this Sunday.

For their part, Las Palmas took the Canarian derby with a heart attack goal from Lemos after 92 minutes of play. Those of Pepe Mel, who were better than Tenerife, were carried away by their audience and the great atmosphere of the Gran Canario stadium, which they soon began to enjoy from the first half hour with their local tandem: Viera-Jesé.

The ex-Madridista attended the Canarian genius and he did not fail in the definition for the second consecutive week. Elady responded after the hour of the crash, but Lemos did the crazy thing in the yellow stadium. The victory leaves Las Palmas in fifth position, one ahead of ‘Tete’, who falls to sixth even though they are still in the ‘playoff’.

In other matches of the day, Malaga and Zaragoza will remain in no man’s land after dividing the points (1-1), thanks to the goals of Brandon, who scored again for the Andalusians, and Narváez, both in the first half.

Also, Cartagena’s hard-fought triumph against Amorebieta (2-3) with a double from Rubén Castro, one of them with a fantastic Chilean; and the victory (1-3) of Huesca in Montilivi, which parks Girona in relegation positions, complicating Míchel’s future on the Catalans’ bench.
