Sporting dismisses David Gallego

Three wins in the last 18 league games have sentenced to David Gallegowhich has been destitute this Tuesday from his position as coach of Sporting de Gijón, as announced by the club through an official statement.

The Board of Directors of the Asturian team has already initiated contacts with Pep Marti to take charge of the team until the end of the season. If the negotiations bear fruit, Martí could make his debut this coming matchday against Zaragoza, at El Molinón.

Sporting is in no man’s land, seven points from the playoff spots and nine above the relegation spots. Last year, the team from Gijón was two points away from the play off.

“Real Sporting communicated this morning to David Gallegor that he stops being the coach of the first team.

The Club adopts this decision with the aim of improve the sports situation in the definitive fourteen days of the current LaLiga SmartBank.

Sporting thanks David Gallego for his work at the helm of the team since his arrival in Gijón in the summer of 2020.”
