Sporting and Espanyol return to the fray for direct promotion

MADRID, 20 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sporting de Gijón and Espanyol added victories this Saturday against Tenerife (1-2) and Villarreal B (2-1) to regain the pulse of the fight for direct promotion, on matchday 23 of LaLiga Hypermotion, positions for the that Racing de Ferrol failed.

The Asturian team took the three points from the Canary Islands with a goal from Dani Queipo in the 85th minute. Sporting, which is second with 39 points, was not satisfied with the tie left at half-time by Álex Corredera, who put the locals ahead , and Gaspar Campos. The people of Tenerife continue to fall in the table.

Those from Gijón recovered the taste of victory, much forgotten in the previous eight days in which they had only added one victory, to connect fully with a very irregular fight at the top. Similarly, Espanyol (38), who had not won for five days, won at home, although just barely.

A brace from Braithwaite solved the game for the Catalans, but in the second half the performance of the parakeet team dropped a lot. On the other hand, Racing de Ferrol failed like never before at home (1-3), failing to reach second place (38), against a Real Oviedo that extended its streak in search of the 'Top 6'.

In addition, the day left Real Zaragoza's victory over Andorra (2-0) in the duel postponed the day before due to snowfall in La Romareda. In the lower zone, Alcorcón came out of relegation, with the weekend still to end, with their victory (0-1) over Albacete, and the bottom team Amorebieta suffered another defeat, a 0-2 against an Eldense that is escaping from below.
