Spanish Television will keep DCorazón with Jordi González despite its cost and low audience

TVE returns to the reality of its audiences between the end of the wonderful Euro Cup won by La Roja and the beginning of the Olympic Games. A sad example is the program Hermanos a la obra, the show of Julio José Iglesias and his sister Chabeli, which after the premiere with the drag of the games does not reach 7%. However, we know that one of those inexplicable (and very expensive) decisions has been to renew its programme DCorazón for another six months, despite its disproportionate cost, its lack of justification as a public service and above all despite its disastrous audience figures. The format, much more expensive and less effective than the classic social news programme, only convinces the management of the public channel, which has decided to keep it on the schedule at least until next December, according to sources from the channel. And this is despite the fact that since last January, when Jordi González joined Anne Igartiburu, the format has not managed to rise above 8% of share in a super important time slot for the channel, such as the prelude to the Telediario, and which due to the space has experienced a considerable drop. In recent weeks, thanks to the increase in La 1’s average audience with the Euro Cup, the programme has managed to stay above 8% on occasion, the perfect excuse to prolong this inconceivable agony and try for the umpteenth time to revive an hour that in recent years was very profitable.

Let us remember that Anne was shocked by the news of Jordi González’s incorporation, because she considered that space to be her program. But the Catalan’s close relationship with the then director of content, José Pablo López, made a negotiation impossible. González arrived as a star to the public sector but suffered a historic setback with La Plaza, which had to be removed, and after starting out as a presenter of Blood ties, After Boris Izaguirre left, it did not obtain too many good audience figures either.

Terelu Campos’ departure

The relationship between Anne and the Catalan has also been much talked about. It’s not that there was bad blood: it’s that neither of them felt they needed the other to present a programme that is, on paper, very simple. In fact, they met just a few hours before the presentation and have never been alone since. “Well, they get along well and are cordial with each other, but they are like water and oil and that is noticeable behind the cameras and in front of them. They don’t fit together at all,” says a person who knows them both very well.

Whatever the case, the space, despite the difficulties, maintains the support of its bosses and, for the moment, in the next few months they will give it a second chance to see if they can improve their audience. “The network asked them for a 10 and, well, for weeks, on most days, they have been above 8% share and that has reassured them,” they tell us. What they don’t say is that in those days the network’s average almost tripled that figure thanks to football. Perhaps the departure of some collaborators such as Adriana Abenia or Terelu Campos, who started, and the permanence of others, such as Alba Carrillo, Pelayo, Euprepio Padula or Susana Jurado have managed to hook the audience a little more each day.
