Spanish Paralympic swimming will face the European Championships held in Madeira from this Sunday, April 21 to Saturday, April 27, an event located on the calendar just over four months before the Paris Games and which will serve to refine the set-up for that event and also to achieve classifications.
Spain wants to once again position itself among the powers of this sport, especially at the continental level, and will seek to improve the 48 medals it achieved three years ago and with the support of its good performance last year at the World Cup in Manchester (England) where it achieved 28. , six gold.
The national delegation will be made up of a total of 41 athletes, including world champions such as the young Anastasiya Dmytriv and Marta Fernández, or Toni Ponce and Íñigo Llopis, who have also already guaranteed their presence in Paris along with other values. such as Nuria Marquès, María Delgado, Nahia Zudaire, Berta García and Iván Salguero.
Along with them, with a minimum mark ‘B’, which allows access to the quota of places that is not completed with the ‘A’, there are Teresa Perales, Luis Huerta, Jacobo Garrido, Sarai Gascón, José Antonio Marí, Beatriz Lérida, David Sánchez, Emma Feliú, Álex Villarejo, Albert Gelis, Marian Polo, Enrique Alambra and Daniel Ferrer.
In this sense, Perales, winner of 27 Paralympic medals, will finally know in which class she competes in the French capital. The Aragonese dropped from S5 to S2 due to her left shoulder injury that prevents her from using that arm to swim, but in a test in Melbourne she was reclassified to S3, where her chances are reduced. The Spaniard appealed and in this European Championship she will definitively decide which one she will compete in.
In addition to these swimmers, on behalf of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities there will also be Sarai Gascón, Leyre Ortí, Óscar Salguero, Miguel Luque, Xavi Torres, Vicente Gil, David Levecq, Carlos Martínez, Sergio Martos, Ariel Schrenck, Jian Wang Escanilla and Marco Ozaeta, while Ariadna Edo, José Ramón Cantero, Enrique Alhambra, Juan Ferrón, Mammadouh Dambelleh and Borja Sanz will compete for Sports for the Blind.
Alejandro Rojas, Mikel Erdozáin, Delia Fontcuberta, Jaime Montero and Jorge Palau are those selected by the Spanish Sports Federation for People with Cerebral Palsy and Acquired Brain Injury. All of them will try to see their form in a key event in their preparation without losing sight of how potential rivals may be.
