MADRID, 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish badminton left the first Ibero-American Championship, played in the Mexican town of Guadalajara, with a booty of seven medals, three gold thanks to Ania Setién and the doubles formed by Jacobo Gutiérrez-Rubén García and Ania Setién-Paula López.

Setién from San Sebastian was the great protagonist with his double, first by winning the individual final after coming back from Peru Fernanda Saponara and winning in three games by 19-21, 21-19 and 21-16. Later she, along with Paula López, overwhelmed the Mexicans Esther Jiménez and Salma Ramírez 21-5, 21-14.

The third national badminton title was also in the pairs modality, thanks to Jacobo Fernández and Rubén García, who defeated the Peruvians José Guevara and Diego Mini with authority 21-18 and 21-14.

There was no gold medal because in the fourth and last final with Spanish presence there was no victory, since the mixed duo formed by Jacobo Fernández and Paula López could not beat the locals Luis Armando Montoya and Miriam Jacqueline Rodríguez, who won by 21-19, 17-21 and 18-21.

These four medals join the three bronze medals won by Carlos Piris, individually, and by Carlos Piris-Joan Monroy and Ania Setién-Joan Monroy in doubles, who were unable to reach their respective finals after losing in the semifinals.
