Spaniard David de la Cruz abandons La Vuelta due to gastroenteritis

The Spanish cyclist David de la Cruz (Astana Qazaqstan Team) has dropped out of the 2023 Vuelta a España, in which he was eleventh overall, after suffering an episode of “gastroenteritis and fever” on the rest day this Monday. as reported by his team.

“Unfortunately, due to gastroenteritis and fever during the rest day, David de la Cruz will not be able to start today. We wish David a speedy recovery,” Astana said in a statement issued on social networks.

The rider from Sabadell, who already had to abandon the Tour de France, his first Grand Tour of the year, also says goodbye to the Spanish round in the final stretch of the last week. De la Cruz was eleventh overall, less than a minute behind the top 10.
