Spain will return after the summer with the League of Nations

The national team soccer will return in September with the League of Nations (LN). UEFA does not give up its tournament and has made a hole in the calendar with its shoehorn, also with a novel formula as it will use in the Champions League and in the Europa League. Its Executive Committee approved in Nyon (Switzerland) this Wednesday three international selection windows between the next months of September and December. In that period, Spain will play eight matches, six from the League of Nations (in two ten-day windows and three round-trip clashes with Germany, Ukraine and Switzerland) and two friendlies still to be finalized.

The order will be as follows: two Nations League matches in September, two more from LN plus a friendly in a ten-day window in October and the same formula in November. The clubs have protested having to give up their international players 30 days within 90 days, but UEFA has been adamant: the League of Nations groups and two friendly matches will be played.

The last game for Spain was last November, against Romania in Madrid. The National Team closed with a landslide (5-0) a brilliant qualifying phase for the pandemic. Then, Robert Moreno was fired by the Federation, which hired Luis Enrique again. The Asturian has not yet been able to debut in his second stage at the head of La Roja, since the pandemic took ahead the friendlies of March (against Germany and the Netherlands) and those of June against Portugal and Lithuania in preparation for the Eurocup, which was finally postponed until the summer of 2021.

The national team calendar approved by UEFA at its meeting on Wednesday June 17, will raise difficulties for players to enjoy the 30 days of statutory vacation to which they are entitled, especially in the case that the Spanish teams that play European competitions advance to the final stage of the Champions League and the Europa League.
