Spain will play a World Cup 24 years later

MADRID, 13 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s rugby team has won its ticket to the World Cup, an event that has not been on for 24 years, after beating Portugal this Sunday (33-28) in a vibrant match on the fourth day of the European Championship at the Central Stadium of the University City of Madrid.

The ‘XV del León’, benefited by the victory of Georgia in Romania (23-26) and by the disqualification of the Russians and Belarusians, needed to win the Portuguese team to get their place in France 2023 and did not fail, removing the ‘thorn ‘ from the disappointment of four years ago, when they were left at the gates.

In this way, those of Santiago Santos, who left 24-17 at halftime and finished the job in the second half, will be at the World Cup next year, a competition that the Spanish have not set foot in since 1999.
