Spain travels with ten boats and great expectations to the European Rowing Championship in Slovenia

MADRID, 23 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish rowing team faces options to get several medals in the European Championship, which will be held from May 25 to 28 in the Slovenian city of Bled, and where the best assets could be in the two without and the men’s double sculls , which obtained bronze and silver in the last edition.

Among the ten boats that travel to Slovenia (five men’s, four women’s and one Paralympic), the two without (M2-) and the men’s double sculls (M2x), made up of Jaime Canalejo and Javier García and Rodrigo Conde and Aleix García, stand out. , respectively. Both boats were medalists in the European past in Munich,
silver the double scull and bronze the two without and they will seek to improve it in this edition.

As announced by the federation in a press release, this European Championship is not the main objective of the team, but the season goes through qualifying for the next Olympic Games in Paris in September, within the framework of the World Rowing Championships in Belgrade (Serbia). ).

In the women’s category, Virginia Díaz stands out in skiff, who will try to repeat the final of the 2022 edition and endorse the good feelings of the last World Cup event, where she won gold. Aina Cid and Esther Briz were also first in the world cup, in the women’s two without, this test being the debut of both as
couple.

Cid and Briz are not the only boats that debut in a major competition, since in this European championship the national team presents new formations, such as the men’s lightweight double sculls (LM2x), with Caetano Horta and Dennis Carracedo; Manel Balastegui makes his debut in the individual category in light skiff. It will also be the first competition for the Paralympic couple made up of Enrique Floriano and Verónica Rodríguez, in the PR3Mix modality.

The rest of the Spanish representatives, all with international experience, will be Gonzalo García, in heavy skiff, the women’s light double scull formed by Rocío Lao and Natalia de Miguel and the women’s four without, made up of Iria Jarama, Izaskun Echániz, María Fernanda Valencia and Olivia del Castillo.
