Spain takes six victories in the 45th Christmas Race of Palamós

Spanish boats have conquered six of the eight categories in the 45th edition of the Christmas Race, a regatta that was held from December 19 to 22 in the waters of Palamós Bay, thanks to the triumphs in 470 Mixed, in men’s ILCA7 , in ILCA6, in both categories, and also the double in 420.

This edition of the Christmas Race, which was characterized by light winds, was still complete. In the 470 Mixed class, 10 of the 11 scheduled events could be held. The Spanish champion crew, made up of María Bover (RCN Palma) and Pablo García (RCN Gran Canaria) took the title after beating the powerful Italian fleet of Marco Gradoni and Alessandra Dubini on the last day.

Another of the Olympic classes, ILCA7, had a 100% Spanish podium with the triumph of the Catalan Ricard Castellví (CN Cambrils) after a tough fight with the Balearic Pep Cazador (CN Arenal), who dominated the first two days, while Castellví was higher in the last two. The third place corresponded to Mario Plomer (CV Puerto d’Andratx), also from the Balearic Islands.

The third Olympic category in Palamós, ILCA6 for Women, was for the Canarian Isabel Hernández (RCN Gran Canaria), who ended up beating Cristina Vilariño (CN Arenal) and Ascensión Roca de Togores (RCN Torrevieja), who had led in the previous days. In ILCA6 absolute and masculine the title went to Daniel Cardona (CN Arenal), followed by the Dutch Daan Boekholt. Third was Hernández, who in addition to the women’s title rose to third place in the absolute drawer.

For their part, in class 420 Marc Mesquida and Ramon Jaume (CN Arenal) won in the absolute and male category, while in the female category the Galician women Stela Maris Enríquez / María Núñez (RCN Sanxenxo) won. The Catalans Pau Llibre Vinyes-Miralpeix / Alberto Marsans (CN El Balís) and the French Colin Postel / Louis Arnaud, completed the absolute podium.

In the ILCA4 promotion class the titles, both male and female, went to the Netherlands with Floris Scharffordt and Signe Brinkert. Reigning European Optimist champion from Mallorca, Xavier García Ollé (RCN Palma) finished second and Finn Tatu Uusitalo (CN Cambrils) completed the podium.
