Spain-Switzerland will be played on September 24 at La Romareda

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, announced this Thursday that the match between the teams of Spain and Switzerland of the League of Nations will be played on September 24 at the La Romareda Stadium, in Zaragoza, if the venue is remodeled in time to meet a series of requirements set by UEFA.

“I don’t mind revealing here that September is the key month for Aragon, we are working on it. We all want it to be played in Aragon, but there are some requirements, the Aragonese Football Federation deserves it. The Spain-Switzerland in September will be played at La Romareda in the absence of the stadium remodeling works”, insisted Rubiales during his participation in the ‘Encuentro Deportivo EP’, in collaboration with the FAF on the occasion of its Centenary.

The leader stressed that Since 2003, a national team match has not been played in La Romareda. “Our commitment is there. We have created a mixed commission and we are trying to ensure that the stadium meets minimum requirements. It would be tremendous to say that we are not going to play there, but the rules must be met. There are details that do not meet those minimum requirements, the The biggest beneficiary will be Real Zaragoza”, he pointed out about the remodeling of the venue.

These renovation works of the stadium to conform to the requirements of UEFA are being worked on in a Mixed Commission. “We have a couple of months ahead of us to work, I don’t think it will take more than March, early April,” explained Rubiales about the decision of whether La Romareda will be able to host that national team match.

It must be remembered that in addition to returning to Aragón, The Spanish National Team returns to Barcelona after 18 years and to Galicia after 13.

In addition, the president announced that, on the occasion of this centenary of the FAF, are working so that, also in September, the women’s team will play in Teruel and the U-21 in El Alcoraz.
